Core Functions

The functions of the Institute as provided for under Section 5 of the Industrial Property Act No. 3 of 2001 are to:

  1. Consider applications for, grant and registration of industrial property rights;
  2. Screen technology transfer agreements and licences;
  3. Provide to the public, industrial property information for technological and economic development;
  4. Promote inventiveness and innovativeness in Kenya; and
  5. Organize and conduct training, competitions and awards relating to industrial property matters.
