Professor Elijah I. Omwenga is the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya. Elijah holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi in the area of Information Systems. He also has a Masters degree in Computer Science from The National University of Science and Technology, Bulawayo; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Science, Nairobi; and a Bachelor of Education (Sc.) degree,  Kenyatta.

Elijah has published over sixty scholarly articles in high impact journals and academic platforms. He has written three University level books. Professor Omwenga has previously served in several other boards including The Kabete National Polytechnic, The Kisumu National Polytechnic, ICT Authority, NACOSTI, KENET, AVOIR and Child Fund International.

He is the President of the African Association for Teacher Educators and the African representative to the World Forum for Associations of Teacher Educators (WFATE). Professor Omwenga is a Commonwealth and VLIR Scholar. He is also an Advantage Corporate Governance Training Alumni of South Africa
