The Institute, in collaboration with the State Department of Industry (SDI), five State Agencies and Kaimosi Agricultural Research and Training Centre (KARTC), held a tree planting exercise in six different institutions in Nandi County. Led by Karanja Njora, Secretary Administration, SDI, Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, the Institute and the five other Agencies, Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI), Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) and Scrap Metal Council (SMC), planted the trees in KARTC and five different schools.

The Institute joined pupils, teachers led by Headmaster Linus Chemwor, parents and other stakeholders in planting 1,400 seedlings in Chepkoiyo Comprehensive School in Kapkanga Ward, Emgwen Sub-County, Nandi County, on 4th August, 2026.
“Make sure you look after the trees you plant by watering and weeding for it,” the team leader of Institute’s team officers, Joshua Nyakundi told the pupils before they started planting the seedlings procured from the KARTC’s 10 acre tree and fruit nursery.

The School’s Headmaster praised the Institute for providing the seedlings, which included cypress, piners, white and red, bottle brush, podocapus, bishop tree, paw paw, coffee and avocadoes. “These trees will improve our environment, provide fruits and shade as well as a live fence to our school,” said Chemwor.

The State Department mobilised and coordinated the exercise to contribute towards the Government’s National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign seeking to grow 15 billion trees for restoration of 10.6 million hectares by 2032.
The exercise was part of the activities, including a roadshow, the SDI and its Agencies organised as part of the build-up to their participation in this year’s Kaimosi Agricultural Expo held in Nandi County under the theme “Adopting Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture through Value Addition.”

During the exercise, SDI planted the trees in KARTC, ACA in Kipsugur Junior Secondary School, KITI in Sasimon Junior Secondary School, KLDC in Kiborgok Junior Secondary School and SMC in Kamenon Junior Secondary School.
